The gap
A robot can hold the pose and still miss the timing. The difference is obvious to anyone watching, and hard to put a number on.
Teams measure their own robot against their own last version. Nobody is measuring against the same human.
Turning at speed. Landing off a step. Going down and getting back up. These are where robots fail, and where the least reference data exists.
What’s missing isn’t a better robot. It’s a shared reference for what good looks like.
Why athletes
Not a volunteer in a motion-capture suit. A professional, mid-game, doing the movement the way it is actually done.
Motion and muscle
Our Ares sleeve reads how the leg moves and which muscles are doing the work, at the same time. A robot can be scored on both: where its limbs went, and whether the effort landed where an athlete’s does.
In the game
Athletes wear Ares through training and matches. The reference comes from real turns, real landings and real falls under real pressure — thousands of repetitions a lab could never stage.

Locomotion
Stride after stride at speed, with the whole body in rhythm. It is the movement humanoids demonstrate most and the one that gives away the least about a machine, because a steady jog hides a lot.
The service
A benchmark is a report against the scale, not a visit to a lab.
Score
One number out of ten for each movement in the library, placed against the elite band. Simple enough to put on a slide.
Diagnosis
Which joint, which moment, and which of range, timing or smoothness is holding the score down. That is where the engineering goes next.
Progress
Run the same benchmark on the next build and the one after it. The scale does not move, so the progress is real.
A number your engineers can chase, and your investors can read.
Consent and privacy
Richter is built from movement, not from people. The reference carries how a body moved, and nothing about whose body it was.
Player
Each athlete agrees to their movement joining the reference, separately from wearing Ares, and can withdraw.
Team
Nothing leaves a team’s programme without the team’s agreement. Clubs see what is shared and what is not.
Anonymised
No names, no clubs, no dates, no footage. A robot is scored against a band of elite movement, never against a person.
Where it stands
The Ares sleeve that captures the reference stays within 3% of a lab-grade research sensor on the same leg. That is the instrument Richter is built on.
Collection begins through Ares pilots with key Australian sports organisations, movement by movement, with player and team consent in place before a single session is kept.
A small number of humanoid developers scored against the first movements in the library, and the scale refined with them. We are choosing those partners now.
